Attendance at colleges and universities is beyond the financial reach of many families. Thirty years ago, California was widely praised because our public universities provided students with quality educations that were affordable for nearly everyone.
Now, many young people either forego education beyond high school or end up with sizable student loan debts that will haunt them for many years and reduce their purchasing power—slowing our economy.
